This inclusive writing book invites children to play with pictures. They show MUM AT THE CAR, MUM AT THE FENCE. Then they write the words and read what they have written. Using hand gestures, they then learn to bring letters together into a syllable. While the children play, the teacher photographs. The children then stick these photos into their notebooks. Later, as they read their notebooks, they recognize each other and the activity in the photos. Vygotskij spoke of these photos in notebooks as external memory that becomes internalized.
