Painting lessons for children with down syndrome

In order to gain an awareness of oneself, it is necessary to develop a form of expression that can be communicated with other people. Children with down syndrome have problems picking up their experiences. As toddlers, they still scribble and paint with pleasure. Later, they will not enjoy it anymore. Once they are preschool children and can construct mental images, they want to reproduce them with a brush, ink and pen. We have developed various offers for them that help to shape their inner ideas as "real" pictures.

Toddlers:

  • scribble
  • paint with water colors

Preschoolers:

  • template
  • relief pictures with play dough
  • pictures of teared up materials like paper
  • collages

Schoolchildren:

  • pictures to continue painting
  • color pages
  • parallel painting
  • paint own pictures
