From Disability to Life

The author got to know Julia and her mother at a Pedagogical Week in Bremen. The week was organized by students at the University of Bremen. Many working groups were offered on topics such as "Healthy food", "electronics", "folk dance", "dolls".

Julia and her mother came to a lecture the author was giving to teachers. "How to learn to read without fear". Julia was 20 years old and worked in a sheltered institution.At the author's first meeting with Julia, Julia clung to her mother's coat: "Mum, let's go."

It was an insightful way for the author and Julia to meet each other and to begin to develop a mutual trust in each other.
